Policeman killed by suspected suicide bomber in North Ossetia

One policeman was killed and at least two wounded in an apparent suicide bombing in the Russian Caucasus province of North Ossetia on Tuesday morning.

“An unidentified man, presumably a suicide bomber, approached a checkpoint in the Prigorodny district at about 09:30 Moscow time and blew himself up. The bombing left one police officer dead,” Interfax news agency reported quoting a source in the local law enforcement agencies.

Terrorist attacks have happened in North Ossetia before as the republic shows more support to the federal center than its predominantly Muslim neighbors. The most infamous attack was the school siege in the town of Beslan in September 2004, which resulted in the death of over 300 hostages, most of which were children.
