Eight face jail over deadly nightclub fire

The probe into a deadly nightclub fire in the Russian city of Perm has concluded, with eight people facing jail terms of five to ten years in prison, if found guilty over the blaze, which left over 150 dead.

One more person, who, according to the investigation, was one of the nightclub’s managers and was receiving a profit from it, was put on the international wanted list. He was isolated from other defendants and a separate criminal case against him has been launched.

Flames swept through the Lame Horse club last December, when an indoor fireworks display set plastic decorations alight.

Officials found multiple safety breaches by the club's management, fireworks suppliers, and local authorities.

The incident caused outrage throughout Russia, which has a poor fire-safety record.

Strict checks were subsequently conducted across the country, with several nightclubs shut down as a result.
