“Too early to say how much aid needed to Pakistan”– UN Deputy Envoy

International aid is flowing into Pakistan where massive floods have claimed 1,600 lives and affected more than 17 million people. The UN's deputy envoy to Pakistan told RT much needs to be done to help the country out.

“We are still in the beginning. There are still hundreds of thousands of people displaced, newly displaced every day, every week more and more people are impacted,” UN Deputy Envoy to Pakistan Kilian Kleinschmidt told RT.

“At the same time we have people returning already,” he added. “These people also need assistance. They are now rebuilding their houses, they have to rebuild their livelihoods, they have begun cleaning and clearing their fields. They need to be helped.”

“The appeal of the United Nations, the appeals done by other organizations, by the government itself – it is just a beginning. We are still assessing and we can not even do the full assessment because it is still happening. We have seen almost a billion dollars now coming to Pakistan in kind, in donations but also in cash.”
