Changes in tuition fees no excuse for violence – MEP

Changes in tuition fees no excuse for violence – MEP

Dozens were arrested and several people were injured during UK protests over proposed tuition hikes. What started as a peaceful demonstration ended with violence that MEP David Campbell Bannerman says cannot be justified.

“It is a huge change,” Bannerman said of the proposal, which could see tuition fees triple to £9,000 ($14,000) a year. “That has created a lot of anger. But there is no excuse for this kind of violence on the streets of London.”Tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage resulted from a rally, which saw more than 50,000 demonstrators march through London on Wednesday.British Prime Minister David Cameron condemned the rioting and called for the ''full force of the law'' to be used against protestors who destroyed property and assaulted police.
