Cargo plane crashes in Pakistan

An Il-76 cargo plane has crashed into a densely populated area in Karachi, killing at least twelve people, including one Russian national.

The crash in Pakistan's largest city sparked a huge blaze. Casualties on the ground appear likely, as reports say residential buildings for naval officers lit on fire.According to witnesses, one of the plane's engines was on fire when it flew overhead."I live nearby here, and one plane that took off from the airport, the right side of it was already on fire,” a local resident, Nabil Ahmed, was quoted as saying by APTN. “When the plane crashed in this area, there was a big explosion and a whole side of the plane was on fire."The aircraft belonged to a Georgian airline and was heading to Sudan to deliver relief aid.According to the latest report, the crash killed at least twelve people: eight crew, including one Russian – Aleksandr Ulyanov, seven Ukrainians, and four Pakistani construction workers. The blaze was extinguished in about two hours, which allowed rescuers to search through the destroyed buildings for bodies or survivors.Hundreds of people came to see the spectacle and film it with their mobile phones, hampering access for emergency workers.
