Russian Premier invites Japanese investments

The Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Fradkov, has invited Japanese businessmen to play a role in major infrastructure and investment projects in Russia, during his visit to the Japanese capital.

‘There are more positive points for companies entering the Russian market than negative ones. Risks for these companies are still quite high, but benefits that are possible to make, and can greatly exceed the potential risks,’ Mr Fradkov said.   

Japan is considering a proposal from their Russian colleagues to take part in constructing a third additional runway at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport. 

Also, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has urged Russia to use its influence to ensure North Korea stops it nuclear arms programme. 

In addition, what is seen as a good sign, Mr Abe called for mutually acceptable options to be looked at to resolve the territorial dispute over the Kuril Islands, which lasts for 62 years.
