In America, even terrorists own guns

The US government said more than 200 people suspected of terrorism and on the US terror watch list bought arms in 2010.

Ironically, those who bought arms did not break the law. Under US law they were allowed to purchase guns after going through a background check. Their background checks did not reveal they were listed as suspected terrorists nor does being on the list make it illegal to own a gun. In 2009 approximately the same number of people on the list managed to legally acquire firearms. This worries many Americans. New Jersey Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg has called for changes to the law for years. He is currently working to pass proposed legislation which would make it illegal for suspected terrorists to buy guns in America. Lautenberg refers to the current oversight as a “terror gap” in America’s gun laws.
