Europe thrashes America to claim Solheim Cup

Europe’s women golfers have regained the Solheim Cup, beating the United States 15-3.

It was all decided on a dramatic final day of singles matches, where Catherine Hedwall of the Netherlands gained a decisive half-point against Ryan O'Toole.That effectively secured victory, with Azahara Munoz already guaranteed a half against Angela Stanford.Consequently, Europe claimed the trophy for the first time in eight years.Meanwhile, American golfer Bill Haas has won the Fedex title after beating Hunter Mahan in a play-off at the tour championship in Atlanta. He walked away with just under $11.5 million. Haas was tied with fellow American Mahan at the end of the final round so it went to a play-off, where Haas rode his luck. He had to chip out his ball from the water to within a couple of feet of the pin. An incredible shot kept him in the match, which went to a third extra hole, where Mahan found the bunker and sent that putt past the hole. That left Haas needing to sink his for victory – a putt worth just over $11 million for winning the weekend's tour championship event.
