Eisk region’s head resigned after nursing home fire incident

The Head of Russia's southern region of Eisk, Dmitry Kooginis, has resigned at a regional meeting of local parliament members following a devastating nursing home fire last week.

Last week, the Governor of the Krasnodar region Aleksandr Tkachyov demanded Dmitry Kooginis’ resignation accusing him of neglecting firefighters’ warnings of poor fire prevention measures in the building.

The blaze killed 63 elderly people including one nurse and left 33 injured.
