Moscow specialists demining Chechnya

Moscow specialists demining Chechnya

Even during peaceful times, many people in Chechnya continue to fall victim of landmines left over from the war. As the republic goes through the reconstruction process, Moscow specialists are searching for more unexploded arms.

In the next two months, a team of Emergencies Ministry combat engineers from Moscow will have to clear from mines an area of more than 50 hectares.

During the last two weeks, they have already cleared 7 hectares and found 84 explosives, including dozens found in the republic's capital – Grozny.

However, their efforts are hampered by a large amount of metal objects in the ground, making it impossible to work without dogs.

Meanwhile, rehabilitation centres help those fallen victims of landmines, providing medics, and psychological assistance.
