Estonian police detain suspects in attack on Russian citizen

Two men suspected of attacking a Russian citizen in the Estonian capital of Tallinn have been detained by police. The attack took place during riots sparked by the removal of the Soviet WW2 memorial.

Dmitry Ganin died of wounds in hospital on April 27. The identities of the two suspects have yet to be released by Estonian police.

The protests in Tallinn lasted for several days and police using tear gas and water cannons detained hundreds of demonstrators.

The Bronze Soldier is largely seen by ethnic Russians as a symbol of Nazi defeat, while Estonians claim it is a reminder of what they call “Soviet occupation”.
