Hundreds of protesters sat in the road near the site of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday afternoon, bringing traffic to a standstill and sparking discussion about Barack Obama’s accomplishments so far as president. Protesters with the Occupy Wall Street movement led a demonstration outside the main site where the DNC is being held in Charlotte, North Carolina this week, attracting the attention of other activists critical of President Obama’s first term in office, as well as law enforcement and the press. Reporting from downtown Charlotte, the Associated Press writes that a crowd of protesters sit in the middle of an intersection around five blocks from the convention as cops clad in riot gear flanked their demonstration.“Four more years? No more years!” Occupy protesters rallied while hoping to reel in the participation of others who oppose to another term under President Obama. Also on hand, Democracy Now! reports, was a crowd of undocumented immigrants, including some who participated in a 2,000 mile trek aboard the Undocubus, a vehicle that made its way through 2,000 mile and 15 major cities in the days leading up to the DNC. Using the slogan "No Papers, No Fear” as a travel mantra, around 40 immigrants have been traveling the United States to speak out against the state and federal laws that have targeted non-US residents.Other protesters marched through the area surrounding the DNC with rally cries demanding freedom for US Army Private First Class Bradley Manning, the 24-year-old servicemen accused of releasing hundreds of thousands of sensitive military documents to Julian Assange’s WikiLeaks. Although President Obama campaigned on protected whistleblowers, his administration has since fought tremendously to prosecute people like Mr. Manning who have been charged with leaks.Protests are expected to continue throughout the week. In Tampa, Florida last week, demonstrators congregated there to oppose the gathering of the Republican National Committee, who formally nominated former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to face-off against Mr. Obama at the party’s convention.
