Russia intends to spend $US 93 BLN to restructure energy sector

The government has promised to spend $US 93 BLN on restructuring the energy sector over the period till 2015, Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko informed a Duma session Wednesday.

The whole energy system needs to be restructured and Russia is expected to depend more on nuclear power. The population consumes more energy than the country produces.

“There are two goals on the agenda. First, we need to prolong the lifetime of existing nuclear stations and also we need to construct new ones,” said Duma deputy and Energy Comittee member Valentin Ivanov, summing up the Duma Session.
