Sochi 2014 Olympic logo revealed

The organizers of Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics have presented the official logo of the games on Tuesday.

The logo consist of the words “Sochi.ru”, with the year of the games “2014” under it and an Olympic movement emblem on the right.

“The Sochi 2014 brand encompasses our commitment to the values symbolized by the Olympic rings, demonstrating our continued support for the universal ideals of the entire Olympic Movement. The brand is the result of our commitment to innovation; a key element of the overarching Games message that Sochi 2014 is the Gateway to the Future," the statement at the competition’s website said.

"The Sochi 2014 emblem maintains a dialogue between the past and the future. Fusing various dimensions of Russian culture, the brand can promote several images of our vibrant country: a country rich in history, embarking on a successful future; a country open to opportunity,” it added.

The President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko, stressed that the new logo is not a finished work of art and it can still be changed and improved.

“We were looking for a unique style and image of the Games. We created a brand that has tremendous potential, which we can develop. This is not a static brand, and in the remaining five years before the Olympics we can still surprise you," he said.

According Chernyshenko, the Olympic logo is focused on youth and its creation demanded “a series of large-scale studies, expert interviews and briefings".

The project cost has not been disclosed, but Chernyshenko said that the brand cost the organizing committee of Sochi 2014 less than to "our colleagues from London” who, according to some accounts, spent on £400.000 on the emblem for the Summer 2012 Games.

The launching of a new Sochi-2014 brand will be accompanied by a comprehensive media campaign. It is aimed at making every Russian citizen consider himself the host of the Games.
