Russian graduates celebrate

Russian graduates are celebrating the end of their academic calender with leaving parties across the country. On Saturday many received their diplomas. It's the 130th graduation of the Military Supreme Command College – an event traditionally h

Parents look on, proud of what their children have achieved.

One by one, graduates leave the line to get the diploma. Many got medals. There is also an old tradition of the day to throw a coin, and the graduates of the Emergencies Ministry were keeping that tradition going.

"They have a great level of training and education. I take most joy from the fact that very few people were dismissed from college before graduation. All of them are serving honourably and fulfilling their obligations,'' Sergey Shoigu, Russia's Emergency Minister, says.

In the Aleksandrovsky Garden, the Kremlin park which is right in the centre of Moscow, there are graduates of the Suvorov Military Musical College. The majority of them will continue their education in the institute of military conductors.

Meanwhile, there's another graduation in the Academy of the Joint Staff. Even small children were allowed to try on the uniform there. A ball is also held as part of the celebrations – helping to mark a momentous day.

But this isn't simply about one diploma or one day – it's an achievement with a valuable legacy which will last a lifetime.
