Blazing jeep rammed into Glasgow Airport

Britain is on its highest level of terror alert after a burning vehicle driven into Glasgow airport was linked by police to the discovery of two car bombs in central London on Friday.

Shortly after 1500 local time (1400 GMT) on Saturday a car on fire was driven into the door of the main terminal of Glasgow airport. Witnesses said it looked as if the green Cherokee Jeep was trying to drive straight through the doors of the airport.

Two men, one badly burned, were arrested at the scene after fighting with police.  Six people were taken to hospital.  All flights in and out of the airport were cancelled.  Police say they're treating it as a terrorist incident.  New Prime Minister Gordon Brown has convened a meeting of Britain's top security committee to discuss how to deal with the situation.  The alert is the first big test of his leadership since he took over from Tony Blair last week.

Security in London has been stepped up in the wake of the discovery of two bombs in the West End on Friday. Unconfirmed reports say the police have an image of a suspect who left a vehicle outside the Tiger Tiger in the heart of the city's theatre district.

Meanwhile, the United States has heightened security at its airports following the terror attacks in  Britain.

Security has been tightened at transit systems and main airports around the U.S. However, the Bush administration says it does not plan to raise its terror alert status.
