Sharapova plays Venus Williams at Wimbledon

Play has resumed at Wimbledon, and the match-up between Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams is undoubtedly the highlight of the day. And in the men's draw, Russian Nikolay Davydenko is looking to finish off Gael Monfils after rain interrupted their match o

In other games Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova should have no problems against Tamira Pazcek. But Nadia Petrova will face serious opposition in the form of up-and-coming Serb Ana Ivanovic. And seeded fourth Amelie Mauresmo plays Nicole Vaidisova.

Meanwhile, Monday was another rain affected day at Wimbledon, but the women's top seed, Justine Henin, is safely through to the next stage. The Belgian made short work of Switzerland's Patty Schnyder 6-2 6-2. She'll play Serena Williams next.

Williams booked her place in the next round after beating Daniela Hantuchova  6-2  6-7  6-2, but it was far from easy. The American was in agony after picking up a calf strain, as she dropped the second set. But after a rain break Serena came back rejuvenated to take the decider 6-2, and produce a quite remarkable win.

Russia's Elena Dementieva is out of the competition, losing to the sixteen year old Austrian Tamira Paszek. It's only two years since Paszek was the runner up at the Junior Wimbledon, and she was thrilled to claim such an illustrious scalp.

Not a smooth ride by any means for Venus Williams as well. At one stage she was a set and a break down to Japan's Akiko Morigami. She rallied back though and won this classic rally. She then went on to serve out for the match and won 6-2 3-6 7-5.

Sixth seed Ana Ivanovic is looking good as well. The Serb made short work of France's Aravane Rezai 6-3  6-2.

There were good results for Russia's two other women in action. Nadia Petrova is through after a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Virginia Ruano Pascual. While Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland in straight sets 6-2 6-3.
