“Afghan drug production grows despite NATO operation”

NATO has failed to crack down on drug production in Afghanistan which has surged in recent years, said Fred Weir from Christian Science Monitor.

He added that increased drug trafficking from Afghanistan to Russia is partly due to corruption taking place at the borders between Russia and neighbouring Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Another reason is the poverty in the region where producing drugs is the only source of income for many.
