Car blast in Moscow

Two people have been injured, one of them seriously, in a car blast in the centre of Moscow. The explosion happened near the entrance to the Pushkinskaya metro station, on Tverskaya Street.

Two people were in the car at the moment of the blast. The 42-year-old driver of the vehicle suffered injuries to his legs, while the woman passenger was treated at the scene.

Forensic experts are examining the vehicle.

The police say the explosion could have been caused by an explosive device.

“The explosion caused damage to the car's bumper and airbags were deployed. The driver and passenger have been sent to hospital. The driver suffered a broken right leg and other injuries to his legs. The woman passenger was not seriously injured. Explosives experts are currently examining the scene. Preliminary results show that a small explosive device caused the blast. However we will have more concrete information at the conclusion of the investigation,” said Konstantin Yarovenko, police spokesperson.
