Packing a ‘super bowl’: Green Bay NFL player caught with 350 grams of pot, $190k, and a gun

Packing a ‘super bowl’: Green Bay NFL player caught with 350 grams of pot, $190k, and a gun

One member of the Green Bay Packers has bigger problems than not making this year's Super Bowl. Defensive tackle Letroy Guion faces felony charges in Florida for having over 350 grams of marijuana, $190,000 in cash and a gun, a police report said.

Guion was pulled over by police in his hometown of Starke on Tuesday night for "failure to maintain a single lane," according to a statement issued by the small-town police department in northern Florida. “As the officer was behind the vehicle, he reports that he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.”

The driver, later identified as the 315-pound Guion, was “partially hanging out of the driver's [side] window,” and “asked the officer if he knew who he was.”

The cop requested that the professional football player step out of the vehicle and called for backup. When asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle “such as weapons or narcotics,” Guion told the officer he had a firearm registered to him in the truck.

Once the additional police units arrived, the officer began to search the truck “due to his probable cause established by the Strong Odor of Marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle.”

The Packers player was "extremely uncooperative and hostile" during the initial inspection of the truck, and the officer said in the report that Guion "kept coming toward the vehicle several times saying, 'Hey man, my money is in there. Don't let him take my money’."

Guion, who just finished his seventh year in the NFL, “then 'rushed' the driver’s side of the vehicle in an attempt to remove a black bag pack that was located on the front passenger seat of the vehicle,” the statement continued.

He was then secured with handcuffs “for officer safety.”

In the bag was 357 grams of marijuana, a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and $190,028.81 in cash. The pot was in two gallon-sized Ziploc bags.

Possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana is a felony in Florida, punishable by up to five years in prison. Possession of a firearmin commission of a felony"regardless of whether the use of a weapon is an element of the felony" carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted.

Guion, 27, just finished his first season in Green Bay after signing a one-year, $1 million contract with the team in March. He spent the first six years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent, though ESPN reported towards the end of the season that the Packers were discussing a new deal with the tackle.

Guion’s agent, Seth Katz, told the sports network Wednesday morning that he was still gathering information about his client’s arrest.

“We are aware of a serious matter involving Letroy Guion. We have not yet spoken to Letroy and we will have no further comment," the Packers organization said in a statement.

Guion is the first Green Bay player to be arrested since former outside linebacker Erik Walden was jailed over Thanksgiving weekend in 2011, Fox Sports reported.

The Florida native's Tuesday arrest came the same day Indianapolis Colts linebacker D’Qwell Jackson was arrested for simple assault in Washington, DC after he was accused of assaulting a pizza-delivery driver over a parking space, according to WJLA.
