Russian court urged to jail Berezovsky

A Russian court has been asked to sentence self-exiled tycoon Boris Berezovsky to nine years jail on embezzlement and money-laundering charges associated with Aeroflot airlines, whose shares he held in the mid-1990s.

The prosecution made the request and says the Russian oligarch's guilt has been fully proven.

However it's unlikely Berezovsky, who received political asylum in the UK, will serve any sentence. He rejects the charges and refuses to co-operate with the court.

Britain has repeatedly refused Russian requests to extradite the businessman.

In all, five criminal cases have been opened against the tycoon in Russia, including one in connection with his calls to violently overthrow the Russian government.
