`Japansky` to be on the road by 2009

Japan's largest auto-manufacturer, Nissan Motors, is planning to start producing cars at its assembly plant in St. Petersburg by the beginning of 2009.

The plant will produce up to 50,000 cars a year, including two models, the Teana and the Nissan X-Trail .

It will require investment of $US 200 million and will create close to 750 jobs.

Car parts will initially be imported, but will later be purchased inside Russia to lower the price.

Nissan currently ranks fifth in terms of sales in Russia.
