Hungary joins Russia-EU gas pipeline project

Hungary is to join the South Stream gas pipeline project. The joint venture by the Russian company, Gazprom, and the Italian, Eni, will deliver Russian gas to Southern Europe. The pipeline is planned to be online in 2013.

Friday’s announcement was made by the Hungarian Prime Minister, Ferenc Gyurcsány, following talks with his Russian counterpart, Viktor Zubkov, in Budapest.

Apart from oil and gas, discussion has also taken place on a range of other issues such as cooperation on nanotechnology and transport.

During the visit, Russian aircraft producer, Sukhoi, and Hungarian air carrier, Malev, signed an agreement to build a repair base for the Sukhoi Superjet-100.
