Kyrgyzstan to get a one-party parliament?

President Bakiyev's Ak Zhol party has secured victory in Kyrgyzstan's parliamentary poll. The country's Central Election Commission says it seems to be the only one elected, according to the preliminary vote count. Opposition groups have condemned the ele

Ak Zhol has won 49% of the votes, with about 90% counted. The main opposition party Ata Meken is trailing way behind them with only about 9% and the Social Democrats come third with about 5%.

The result means that the Ak Zhol party will have a massive share in the new parliament, with Ata Meken and the Social Democrats most likely missing out on any representation.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe criticised the election, calling it a missed opportunity to meet the OSCE commitments.
