Artillery fights snow blocks in Caucasus

Cannons have been used to displace snow blocking the Trans-Caucasian highway which links Russia with Georgia.

Following heavy snowfalls in the region, which led to avalanche warnings, emergency forces fired artillery shots to force the snow down. 

The snow that was knocked down blocked the road even further. 

Traffic on the highway has been stopped and some motorists have got stuck while trying to pass.

Work to clear the snow away is continuing but the weather forecast predicts further bad weather.
