Police arrest suspect on Thalys Amsterdam-Paris train evacuated in Rotterdam

Police arrest suspect on Thalys Amsterdam-Paris train evacuated in Rotterdam

Police have arrested the man who locked himself up in the Thalys train toilet. According to eye-witnesses, he “had a bomb.”

Earlier on, the Amsterdam-Paris international Thalys train was stopped and evacuated, as were seven platforms at the Rotterdam train station.

According to a witness, the man who jumped on the train “had a bomb.” The man then locked himself in the restroom. The train had to be stopped and evacuated.

A SWAT team and an anti-terrorist unit were present during the evacuation at 8.30am local time (06:00 GMT).

A Thalys train was involved in an incident in August when a gunman opened fire on board. A 26-year-old Moroccan was heavily armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and nine cartridges, an automatic Luger pistol and a knife. The potential massacre on the train, en route to Paris from Amsterdam, was prevented by three Americans, a Briton and a Frenchman who were in the car. Two people were injured before they managed to subdue the attacker.
