At least 280 killed, more than 1000 injured as 7.5 quake hits Afghanistan, Pakistan, India

At least 280 people have been killed after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck northern Pakistan, Afghanistan and northern India, local media reported, citing local officials. Massive tremors have been reported in New Delhi, Islamabad and several other major cities.

According to Pakistani officials, 228 people have been killed.

In Afghanistan, at least 52 people have been killed, including 12 schoolgirls in a panic-triggered stampede.Two more people have died in the parts of the disputed Kashmir region controlled by India.

"We received 50 injured and more are being shifted,” hospital spokesman Syed Jamil Shah told Reuters. “The injured suffered multiple injuries due to [a] building collapse."

Earlier USGS reported that the magnitude of the quake was at least 7.7.

According to USGS, the quake was about 213km deep, 48 km south-west of the town of  Jarm, Afghanistan.
