Christscalers: Russian daredevils sneak to top of Rio’s Jesus statue (VIDEO)

A couple of thrillseekers from Russia and Ukraine has scaled the world-famous Christ the Redeemer statue overlooking Rio de Janeiro.

The escapade took place in the summer, but the two have only published footage of the deed just now.

“Reaching the top of the Christ the Redeemer can be compared to the Peter I monument in Moscow. We climbed it a couple of years ago and they are a match when it comes to difficulty. However, the Christ statue is much more interesting to climb, since we had to sneak out to it at night,” climber Vadim Makhorov told RT.

Makhorov from Novosibirsk in Russia went to Latin America with his friend Vitaly Raskalov, originally from the town of Smela in Ukraine. Together they came up with an urban exploration project called Ontheroofs. The two have been scaling some of the world’s tallest buildings, such as the Shanghai Tower.

The Christ the Redeemer statue is the national symbol of Brazil. The 38-meter figure of Jesus Christ standing with his hands outstretched was erected in the 1920s and early 1930s on top of Corcovado Mountain.
