Molly Marine: US corporal charged with MDMA and LSD trafficking

A 20-year-old US marine has been charged with trafficking psychedelic acid known as LSD and MDMA, the active ingredient in the club drug ecstasy.

Corporal David Pena was arrested during a traffic stop near his base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

He reportedly got caught in a sting operation after receiving the drugs in a controlled package delivery.

Pena is accused of various offenses including possession and transportation of the narcotics as well as intent to manufacture and sell.

He’s currently jailed on a $90,000 bond.

MDMA, known as the “love drug”, might seem out of place in a training camp for violence and war, but LSD was used by the military and CIA more than 60 years ago.

Starting in 1953, Project MKUltra doctors gave LSD to military and civilian test subjects, as declassified documents revealed in 1977 and 2001.

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest" author Ken Kesey, Grateful Dead songwriter Robert Hunter, and gangster James 'Whitey' Bulger were all dosed with the drug as part of the project.

The mind control experiments were designed, in part, to help with interrogations in Europe and Asia.

The legal "smart drug" modafinil, also known as provigil, is approved for use by several countries including astronauts on the International Space Station and the US Air Force.

Militants for Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) are known to ingest large quantities of the amphetamine Captagon, allowing them to fight for days with little rest.
