Restaurant diners stick their necks out for cigarette

Following in the footsteps of other European countries, most states in Germany have banished smoking to the streets. But a restaurant owner from the town of Goslar has invented a novel way for his customers to take a quick puff without breaking the law.

According to new laws, in public places a cigarette with your morning coffee must be enjoyed outside.

By simply sawing three holes into the wall, the restaurant owner Michael Windisch has found a novel and perhaps drastic way of beating the system and the ban.

Now his guests can enjoy all the warmth of being inside while actually having a cigarette outside.

“We did it to poke fun at the smoking law, so at first it was a joke but I do use it and so do our customers,” Mr Windisch said.
