Trump rally ‘bomb threat’ tweet sparks Connecticut arrest

Trump rally ‘bomb threat’ tweet sparks Connecticut arrest

A 20-year-old man was arrested by Connecticut cops after allegedly tweeting that, if no one else was up to the task, he would have to bomb a Donald Trump campaign rally on Saturday. A follow up tweet warned his family to leave the Waterbury event.

Connecticut State Police were acting on information from the US Secret Service, who spotted the tweets and contacted the counter-terrorism office.

According to police, the first tweet, read: “Is someone going to bomb the Trump rally or am I going to have to?

The tweet, later deleted from the account, was followed by a second that apparently warned the suspect’s family to leave the campaign event in Waterbury to avoid harm.

Authorities tracked the tweets to a home in the Ardsley Road area of Waterbury, and say the sole user of the account was Sean Taylor Morkys, 20.

After the US Secret Service visited Morkys’ home and was satisfied that he posed no immediate threat to the public, he was taken into police custody. He was later released on a bond of $25,000.

Morkys has been charged with first degree inciting injury to person or property and second degree breach of peace. He is due to appear before Waterbury Superior Court on May 4.

Two Trump rallies were held in Connecticut on Saturday. A second event in Bridgeport was disrupted by protesters, many of whom were removed from the building, with a police officer employing a chokehold on one activist as he was dragging him out.
