Russian drought aid floods into Moldova

Humanitarian aid from Russia has arrived in the autonomous region of Gagauzia in southern Moldova to help locals deal with the severe drought that hit the country last year.

The aid includes five tonnes of tinned meat, 24 tonnes of rice and 30 tonnes of buckwheat.

The leader of the civic organisation “United Gagauzia”, Fyodr Gagauz, says it's being distributed by the Moldovan Emergency Ministry to schools and kindergartens.

“The bigger share of aid that consists of 5000 tonnes of grain and 60 tonnes of sunflower-seed oil is still on its way,” Gagauz said.
