Georgia committed to Abkhazian autonomy

Tbilisi is committed to granting full autonomy to its breakaway republic of Abkhazia as previously announced, says Georgia's President Mikhail Saakashvili.

Tbilisi also offered the Abkhazian leader the post of Georgia's vice-president and suggested that representatives of the republic should be present in all the organs of central power.

Abkhazia would also be granted a right to veto any decisions that are crucial for its people.

“Many did not believe our proposals, and many thought our statements were timed with the NATO summit in Bucharest. The summit in Bucharest is over, but our offers are still valid and must be transformed into real actions. We have serious intentions to set the peace process in motion. And I also hope Russia will join this process, too,” Saakashvili said.
