Russian gymnast Mustafina claims Rio gold in uneven bars

Russian artistic gymnast Aliya Mustafina has won a gold medal in the women’s uneven bars at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Mustafina scored 15.900 for her display, leaving Madison Kocian of the US, who got 15.833 points from the judges, with silver.

The bronze medal in the event went to Sophie Scheder from Germany on 15.566 points.

It’s the second Olympic gold for Mustafina, who also triumphed in the uneven bars at the London Games in 2012, and her third medal in Rio.

The 21-year-old has also claimed a silver in the team competition and a bronze in the all-around event in Brazil.

After Mustafina’s success, Russia has eight golds, 11 silver and nine bronze medals, sitting fourth in the overall medals table.
