Russia restores post to Georgia

Russia is lifting an embargo on direct postal services with Georgia. The ban, which covered postal money transfers, was imposed in October 2006.

Moscow restored air and sea links with Georgia about a month ago.

Direct postal service between the two countries stopped in early October 2006, as well as direct air and transport service.

The restrictions were initially imposed after the Georgian authorities arrested four Russian officers on espionage charges 18 months ago.

The officers were later released into the custody of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe which handed them back to Russia.
