Colorado voter database unavailable for 30 minutes on election day

Colorado voter database unavailable for 30 minutes on election day

Voters in Colorado were turned away after a glitch in the voter registration system took it offline. As a result, voters who did not take advantage of Colorado’s mail ballots are being asked to fill out provisional ballots. The outage lasted for about 30 minutes.

At 3:00pm MST polls in Colorado encountered a serious problem. Polling centers statewide reported not being able to access the state voter system, according to KCNC. Voters who had already completed ballots that were mailed to them are still able to drop them off, but those who planned to vote in-person on Tuesday were made to fill out a provisional ballot.

While clerks accepted mail ballots, they were unable to process them, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. The outage was solved after about 30 minutes according to the spokeswoman for the Secretary of State's Office.

Colorado is an important swing state in this election with nine electoral votes up for grabs for either Clinton or Trump. Out of the state’s 3.27 million active registered voters, over a million have already cast their ballots in early voting, KMGH reported.
