Baltimore tutor charged with child abuse after 7yo hospitalized with head injuries

A Baltimore city school tutor has been charged in relation to an alleged assault on a 7-year-old boy who was hospitalised for significant head and upper body injuries, including a fractured jaw.

Baltimore City Police confirmed 25-year-old Timothy Randall Korr was arrested Wednesday on charges of child abuse and assault following an incident at City Springs Elementary Monday.

In a statement, police said they responded to an incident at Johns Hopkins Pediatrics and found a 7-year-old boy, Trayvon Grayson, suffering major trauma to the head.

Korr was charged with first and second degree child abuse (both felony charges), first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment and neglect of a minor after police viewed footage of the alleged assault.

Baltimore Police Department spokesperson TJ Smith told a press briefing that the “very difficult to watch” video showed the assistant teacher carrying the boy down some stairs and slamming him against a wall.

“We are not releasing the video and quite honestly no-one wants to see that video, it was disgusting to each and every one of us,” he said.

Smith added that the second-grader’s body went limp after he was thrown against the wall by the 225lb man.

Baltimore City Schools said in a statement that Korr was an employee of the school’s charter operator Baltimore Curriculum Project and the school was assisting police with inquiries.

Travon Grayson’s mother told WBAL TV the incident happened as Korr was escorting her son to the principal’s office for disciplinary action. She said that when she arrived at the school, her son was in an ambulance crying.

She also claims Korr was present and had her son’s blood on his clothes.

Grayson said her son lost teeth in the incident and needs surgery for injuries to his mouth.

Baltimore City Police say the investigation is ongoing and they will release a photo of the accused shortly.
