Capacity doubled on Caspian pipeline

Russia and Kazakhstan have agreed to double the capacity of the Caspian pipeline, which will eventually open up Central Asian oil fields to western markets.

The 1,500 kilometre pipeline connects the major oil fields in western Kazakhstan with the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.

The plan is to increase its annual capacity from 32 to 67 million tons of oil by 2012.
