Top geysers: Russia’s hot springs are a wonder

The Geyser Valley of Kamchatka could be Russia’s number one ‘wonder’. The impressive hot springs top a list of candidates for the 'Seven Wonders of Russia' – a contest to find the country's most unique and fascinating sites. The winners will be

The valley, which is in the Far-Eastern peninsula, has over a million votes so far.

The world heritage site is famous for its volcanoes, geysers and thermal pools. The springs were destroyed in a massive mudslide last year, but have since begun showing signs of recovery. 
 
Other contenders in the Seven Wonders list include St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Lake Baikal, and the Peterhof Palace near St. Petersburg.

The contest ends on June 12, which is the annual 'Day of Russia' holiday.
