Sixty hurt in train derailment

At least 60 people were injured when a passenger train derailed in the Amur Region in Russia's Far East. Five people are reported to be in a serious condition and are being treated in hospital. According to investigators, faulty tracks were the most likel

The train, carrying 384 passengers, including 15 children, was travelling from Khabarovsk.

The driver reportedly spotted the damaged rails and braked. Thirteen carriages came off the tracks, 10 of them turning onto their sides. The accident happened at around 8am Moscow time.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has ordered the cabinet to provide the necessary help to those affected.

Passengers who were on the train will get compensation, according to Russian Railways.

Rail engineers are working at the scene and plant to clear the tracks by by Friday morning.

The Investigation Committee to the Prosecutor's Office has begun a criminal inquiry.
