Kvitsiani claims responsibility for attack on Georgian Interior Minister

Kodori Gorge insurgent leader, Emzar Kvitsiani, has claimed responsibility for last week's attack on the Georgian Interior Minister. In a video address, Kvitsiani, said it was his supporters who carried out the attack on Vano Merabishvili's motorcade on O

The gorge serves as the de facto boundary between Georgia and its breakaway republic of Abkhazia. Kvitsiani is the leader of insurgent Svans, who live in the gorge's upper part, which is controlled by the Georgian government.

He's also the former Georgian Presidential Envoy to the Kodori Gorge, and is wanted for treason.

Kvitsiani warned authorities that similar attacks could happen in the future, as his militants are determined to continue their resistance.
