Cartoon fans rally to save TV-channel

Hundreds of young people have gathered on the streets of Saint Petersburg and Moscow to show their support for a cartoon-only TV channel.

The station broadcasts series such as ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘South Park’, which have legions of fans all over the world – including Russia

But the country’s media watchdog says some of the cartoons promote violence, cruelty and are a bad influence on children.

If the complaints are upheld, the 2x2 channel could lose its licence, and this has caused a number of cartoon lovers to take to the streets.

The TV-network 2x2, which broadcasts the shows, says it has no connection with the demonstrations.
