Chopper crash: pilot's body still missing

Rescue workers have found the wreckage of a helicopter that crashed in Russia's Leningrad region. Three passengers and one pilot have been rescued, but one pilot is still missing.

The aircraft, which belongs to the Russian Baltic Airlines, crashed into the Gulf of Finland on Saturday.

One passenger and the second pilot have been taken to hospital, while the other two passengers were unharmed in the crash.

A criminal investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash, though pilot error and engine failure have been suggested as the most likely reasons.

“It reached a height of 50 meters. And about 150 metres from the shore, it fell down and I think – this is just a suggestion – that there may have been some problem with the engine,” said Oleg Manuylo, Deputy Head of the Emergencies Ministry’s regional branch.
