Flying deep: Germans kick off summer with flugtag fest (VIDEO)

Summer is only a couple of days away, meaning it's right about time for dragons, flying computers, the statue of liberty, and even a huge pig to spread their wings and masterfully drop into a river - to the delight of a huge army of spectators.

In fact, 150,000 packed the banks of the Rhine in Mainz, Germany, to witness the annual Red Bull Flugtag.Forty-one crews spent almost three months working on their equipment, only to see it fly for a few dozen meters and then drop, or more often plop, into the water.Despite all the fun, the creators of these backyard-built vehicles attempted to break the world record for the longest flight. One entry managed to achieve that, smashing the old distance by a whopping 6.7 meters.
