Diana remembered a decade after fatal car crash

The memorial service marking the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana's death has taken place at The Guards' Chapel at Wellington Barracks in Central London. Princes William and Harry were joined by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and

Ten years ago Princess Diana died when her car, pursued by paparazzi, crashed in a Paris tunnel. A minute's silence was observed earlier across the UK, and hundreds left flowers at the gates of Kensington Palace. In Paris, where the Princess died in a car accident in 1997, tributes were placed at the monument to the Eternal Flame.

There was a worldwide outpouring of grief for a woman who had become a modern icon.

Even a decade on the conspiracy theories about what really happened continue.

Diana only came to Russia once, two years before her death. And Russia, despite the brevity of the visit, just like the rest of the world, fell in love with the Princess.

As the inquest into Diana’s death still hasn’t come up with the final verdict, many find it hard to brush aside the suspicions that the terrible car crash in Paris was not just an accident.

“It’s terribly convenient for an awful lot of people that the princess is no longer around. Her very presence was a threat to the throne in this country. She’d said on more than one occasion that she believed that she would be killed,” stated Michael Cole, spokesman for Mohamed Al-Fayed.

As the royal memorial service is not open to the public, flowers and candles are appearing in many places associated with her memory.

There is only one existing statue of Diana in her memory, erected not by the Royal family but by the owner of Harrods department store, Mohammad Al-Fayed, whose son died with Diana on that tragic night. But no matter how many conspiracy theories there may be, some say the people’s princess should finally be left in peace.
