Russia-Libya co-operation tops agenda in Tripoli

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to meet Libya's head Muammar al-Gaddafi later on Monday. Earlier he had talks with the country's Foreign Minister and other officials as his two-day visit to the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

The agenda includes the Middle East peace process and the situation in Iraq, while closer bilateral co-operation between Russia and Libya is the focus of the trip.

Libya and Russia have a common vision of the situation in the world, according to Sergey Lavrov.

“We both understand the necessity of democratising international relations and a need for a collective approach in solving conflicts and crises. On January 1 Libya will enter the UN Security Council. In January it will also preside at the Council. We have plenty of tasks in with this connection as well,” Lavrov said.
