Bus with Russian tourists crashes in Poland

23 people have been injured, including 5 seriously, after a bus carrying Russian tourists overturned in the Polish city of Poznan. The bus had been taking the group from Moscow to Nice in southern France when the incident happened.

Medics say there is no risk to the lives of any of the crash victims.

Polish police believe the driver may have lost control after falling asleep.

The Russian General Consul in Poznan has visited the site of the accident. He said the most important thing is that no one was killed.

“Around 5:30 pm local time a bus carrying Russian tourists crashed 15 kilometers from Poznan. According to Polish police the driver may have lost track of the road. 23 people have been injured. They are in stable condition. All the injured have been placed in hospitals and are receiving medical treatment,” explained Andrey Voskoboinikov, Russia's consulate in Poland spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Polish President Lech Kaczynski has declared three days of mourning following the death of 26 Poles in a bus crash in the French Alps. Another 24 were injured in the accident. The party were on a pilgrimage when the bus skidded out of control as it was returning from the Roman Catholic shrine of Notre Dame de la Salette.

The Polish President has flown to Grenonble to pay his respects and meet the injured. He described the accident as one of the most serious in recent times.
