US drones kill 8 in Pakistan

As protests over Osama Bin Laden’s death and calls by the Pakistani military for US forces to leave the country, the US used drones to kill eight suspected militants in North Waziristan, Pakistan.

Around 1,500 demonstrators marched in Pakistan protesting the US killing of Bin Laden, many exclaiming new leaders would rise and fight America. Bin Laden’s death has angered Muslims and Islamists throughout the region. One group has called on Pakistan to end its connections with the US and withdraw from the US lead war on Terror and militant groups in Pakistan. "Jihad against America will not stop with the death of Osama," said Fazal Mohammad Baraich, a cleric from Quetta in Baluchistan. "Down with America," members of the crowd shouted. “Osama bin Laden is a shaheed (martyr). The blood of Osama will give birth to thousands of other Osamas."Protesters chanted, burned American flags and called on their government to respond. Prior to the killing of Bin Laden anti-Americanism ran deep in Pakistan. The county’s government accepts US aid in exchange for the US ebbing allowed to engage in operations against militant groups. Many in Pakistan see this as a violation of Pakistani sovereignty. In addition, a number of US and NATO drone attacks have left many civilians, including women and children, dead without cause. Villages, homes and livelihoods have been destroyed by the US pursuit of militants.
