Dynamo destroys city rivals in KHL’s last eight series

Dynamo Moscow has taken a massive step in their quest to make the semi-finals in the KHL play-offs after thrashing their cross-town rivals CSKA 7-0 to take a 2-0 lead in their best of five series.

After the first tough meeting no one could imagine Dynamo would be a head taller than their city rivals in game two. And after Wednesday’s first period, nothing bespoke future catastrophe for the red-and-blues – it ended just 1-0 for the blue-and-whites. But things went grievously wrong for CSKA in the second.

Dynamo’s Maksim Pestushko and Eric Landry made it 3-0 just a few minutes into the second period.

CSKA looked demoralized and Dmitry Afanasenkov inflicted more misery on the Army men as he made it 4-0 midway through the second.

Dynamo was relentless and showed no mercy to their opponents. Eric Landry added his second of the game, and got his third goal in the play-offs so far.

A few moments later the Canadian's partner, Mattias Wenhadl, scored his side's sixth goal.

CSKA were praying to get to the end of the period, but it wasn't the end of their nightmare. Aleksey Kalyuzhny made it 7-0 with just seconds to go before the end of the second period.

The Army men were looking for a cancellation in the final period. They had many chances but kept missing when it seemed easier to score.

Dynamo easily unzipped the game 7-0. Although they are now in the commanding position – they’ve won two games away, the blue-and-whites insist the series is far from over.

Meanwhile, Atlant go one up in their last eight play-off series with Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

After the regulation finished 1-1, it was Atlant who got the all-important goal in overtime, thanks to Andrey Zubarev's powerful strike.

Elsewhere, Ak Bars leveled their series against Atlant at one apiece, but needed a shootout to do so.

Lastly, Lokomotiv came from a goal down to beat Spartak 3-1 in their first match-up.
