Investigation into Hariri murder hampered by non-cooperation

Investigation into Hariri murder hampered by non-cooperation

The UN inquiry into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafik Hariri, is making progress, but the investigation is being hampered by the failure of some countries to co-operate.

Chief Investigator for the case, Serge Brammertz, told the UN Security Council that about 20 out of 60 countries haven't responded to his request for assistance. The lack of compliance by some countries has slowed down the work of the commission.

He added Syria, whose top officials have been implicated in the killing, has provided a prompt reply.

Evidence collected in the case will be submitted to a special tribunal being organised by the Lebanese government.
